Proposal

We have been asked to create a teaser trailer for a new British film, which must consist of our own original ideas, including plot line, music and images. We must also create a film poster and a magazine front cover promoting our film. In order to complete the task we will need to film an appropriate amount of scenes so we will have a wide enough selection to work with whilst editing. Once we have completed our film work we will then move onto our print work, which includes the film poster and the front cover. We will start with taking a series of still images for our poster and front cover, and manipulating them using Photoshop in order to bring them to a professional standard, then choosing the images that are most appropriate.

The equipment we will use includes a standard video camera and tripod for filming. We will also use iMovie for editing which links to Garageband which we will use to provide our sound. We will also need a number of props for some scenes that are easily accessible to us.

The genre we have chosen for our film is supernatural thriller because we like the concept of horror, but found it was slightly overused and also would be difficult because of limitations on resources. So we’ve decided to go for thriller with the sub-genre of supernatural so we won’t be restricted to one genre and can branch out on our ideas. Our selected primary target audience is young adults ranging from 15-18 with our secondary target audience being 18+. We have chosen this because according to the BBFC guidelines, our film would be classified 15.

The title we have chosen for our film is ‘Lullaby’ because our main character is a young girl, and as part of our trailer she sings the song ‘Ring around the Roses’. Also a lullaby is something used to comfort a child, and so we have used this ironically, giving the word a sinister connotation. We like the idea of a one word title because it is short and easy to remember, it also leaves the audience wondering what to expect. The tagline of our film is ‘They all fall down’, which is the last line of ‘Ring around the roses’. We chose this line because the song was originally sang during the Bubonic Plague in the 14^th Century, with the last line meaning the death of the children and others affected by the Plague. It also gives the audience an idea about how the film may end.
